Smallpools Concert!

Awhile ago me and shawnee were talking about bands we would like to see live.  We like the same type of music and both of us agreed that Smallpools would be a good one to see live.  Well, as I was looking at spotify about a month ago, I saw that smallpools had a concert coming up on may 14 in SLC.  I immediately texted shawnee and soon after we bought the tickets.  Ive been to a few concerts the past couple years, but this was her first.  We left tuesday after school around 2pm to drive up north.  Once we got to SLC we drove around for 30 minutes trying to find someplace to eat.  Literally, downtown salt lake is the worst thing ever.  The dang train is so intimidating and even if there is someplace to eat, it's impossible to find parking.  Plus trying to figure out the one way streets is another problem and anyways we were starving and finally we found this ghetto looking joint where we picked up some sandwiches.

How us small town girls felt driving through the city.

How we felt once we finally got our food. Even though it was a sketchy place, the food was dang good, but maybe we were just hungry. Anyways we got to the concert, parked and hurried and scarfed down our food.  Doors opened at 6:30 and around 6:45 we walked over to The Complex.  As we were walking up to wait in line we noticed that the people in line didn't quite look like our kind of crowd if ya know what I mean. The people in line were even looking at us like we were at the wrong place. I turned to shawnee and asked if we were at the right concert.  We kept checking our ticket and sure enough we had the right place, date and time so I figured these sketchy, rough-looking guys maybe enjoyed some up beat clean music like myself. Well we walked up the line and stood in the back, trying not to make eye contact with anyone.  Walking down the sidewalk came this innocent looking couple and they stood behind us.  It took the security guard less than 2 seconds to ask them who they were there to see.  They responded with "smallpools."  The guard let them know that the people here to see smallpools were already inside.  I guess me and shawnee were still punk enough to blend in with the kids according to the guard haha. But with a sigh of relief me and shawnee walked up to the front of the line with this couple and went inside.  We soon found out that the people in line were waiting to see "Joey bada$$" we laughed all night thinking that we almost went to that sketchy concert.  We would've been eaten alive.

Pre-concert !!!
The first band to come out was called Half the Animal.  Super cool band with way good music. Then Smallpools came on and we loved every minute of it.  The last band was Great Good Fine Ok and they were super good as well.  Kind of a weird band, but still way good.

Through the first band it wasn't too hot, sweaty or claustrophobic, but once smallpools came on we were pushed into a mosh pit with a bunch of concert-loving, sweaty guys.  This moshpit pushed me and shawnee 2 rows from the front which was pretty nice.  During one of the songs the lead singer of smallpools came into the crowd.  He walked into the middle, where me and shawnee were and started jumping up and down initiating another moshpit.  It was insane.  At one point shawnee was practically eating his hair and we were jumping right up next to him.  Crazy.

Post-concert !! Ringing ears, loss of voice, sweaty but hyped x100.
We were right, it was definitely a good band to see live.  We then started driving down to provo where we had a hotel for the night. We pulled in to the Days inn around midnight, still excited about what we just experienced. No one was at the front desk so we rang the bell and this little indian man comes out looking super confused. We say that we are here to check in and he gives us this look and asks how old we are.  We tell him we are 18 and he says "really? you are 18 right now?" We assure him we are 18 and he asks for ID.  He gives us our room key very hesitantly and goes on to tell us a bunch of rules.  He looks us in the eye and says "NO visitors! You two are the only ones allowed in the room tonight. no one else."  Duh we weren't going to have visitors, we literally just needed a place to stay for a few hours. I guess we did look a little banged up from the concert bloodshot, watery eyes and messed up hair, but we are good girls.  So I told my mom this when we got home and she said he probably thought we were prostitutes or something weird like that.  How dare he. lol so anyways we went to bed around 12:30.  I couldn't fall asleep until like 1:30 because Im still sick so my throat was really bothering me.  Next thing i know, the alarm is waking us up at 4 am. We got out of bed and we were out of the hotel room by 4:06.

Yes I know, it's not very smart of us to drive home in the early morning after a crazy night and only 2 and half hours of sleep, but we had to make it to school. Soo call us crazy, but it was worth it. The door to the lobby was locked so we had to go out a side door and then in the front doors to check out. We had to ring the bell again and the same little indian man came out looking even more confused, tired and this time angry. We just slipped him our room key and got the heck out of there. The drive actually wasn't terrible at all.  The cops weren't out that early in the morning, or at least I didn't get caught by any, so I was hauling down I-15. We got home around 7:20 which gave us plenty of time to get ready for school. I wasn't even that tired the rest of the day which was surprising. But on our way home my left ear clogged up from the pressure change and for a good 3 days i couldn't hear out of it.  It's at least a little better today, but still a bugger.  Not sure why Im still sick, but its the worst. My sickness didn't stop me from having a good time.  Fun little getaway.

Us pulling into St. George practically dead, in a good way.
The rest of this week was pretty relaxed.  We did a lot of swimming.  The cole's came over a couple times and jeremy came over to swim as well.  Nothing better than summer afternoons spent in the pool with family.

Pierce living the life with unlimited cheetos and swimming.

Me and tay dried off with some jumping on the tramp.
Last but not least our weekly snow cone selfie... this week's flavors were red velvet, red raspberry and pomegranate. Yummy.
