Made it through January!
I feel like every year January is just a drag, but honestly this year it has been pretty ok. No snow, it's been fairly warm actually and it helps that Im still really enjoying the whole free time thing since graduating. So I really can't complain about January, but the good news is we are one more month closer to summer. So here is a look into what my last few weeks has looked like...
See! decently warm enough to wear a tank top while running. Granted I never really bundle up to run in the cold, but still a tank top?! in January?! pretty nice. I know we need snow desperately, but it has been SO nice to not have to worry about driving in the snow this year. Im all for sacrificing our spring time to rain if it means a snowless winter.
Actually really enjoying work recently. I love working nights and it's a lot more enjoyable when Im not also stressing about school and working another 24 free clinical hours. This is me on a 1:1. I love the people I work with on nights and really like all the free time to do whatever I want. Honestly on night shift I get so much stuff done in the middle of the night like studying, going to the gym, watching shows (duh), planing vacays, getting CEs done and so much more. I love it.
Days off with nothing to do? Temple! The last couple of weeks have been so nice being able to spend some time in the temple. It's been a while since weekly temple dates could be a thing, but Im excited to do this more regularly now.
This is me on a Saturday night. I was running errands all day and realized I had nothing to do that night so only a few hours before I was able to make an appointment. It was a Saturday night well spent. And it's my favorite thing that I literally have so many temples practically in my backyard. I can literally see three temples from my neighborhood. and there's like five more within minutes of those ones. I believe draper is my closest temple though so Ive been going to that one the last couple of weeks.
Lots of late night/ early morning runs. Being on nights I am quite literally nocturnal now. Even on my days off my body doesn't fall asleep into really early into the morning. So when I am awake for the few hours in a day that the world is awake - I get all my errands and stuff done, while in the night time I do all the things that do require regular store hours haha. This usually includes studying and running. Luckily I live in a safe neighborhood so I feel comfortable running in the dark alone. Not to mention Im wearing shorts and it's been between 27-32 degrees on my runs. so fun. ALSO I took myself off Naproxen almost two weeks ago I think. Ive been feeling ok. I wouldn't say good, but definitely not painful enough to have to start pain meds again so we'll take it as a win.
And like I mentioned - studying all night long. I have actually really enjoyed studying for boards. It's nice to be able to actually study the material and take it all in rather than just trying to cram things in to get it done for an assignment or a due date. I feel like information is clicking more than ever right now and I wish I had time to study like this while I was in clinicals so that things made more sense. My board exam is in one week and I feel pretty prepared. My study program says I have a 98% chance of passing so that's good I guess. haha I still just have pretty bad test anxiety but what's new.
Another perk of my work schedule is I work the beginning of the week so every other Sunday night and then M, T, W nights. Which means I get my Friday and Saturdays off - which allowed me to hang out with the Hursts at a Jazz game this last week. I sure do love them.
In memory of Erin we said we needed to go to a Jazz game or a Hockey game every winter. The last time we were at the Delta center was about two weeks after Erin had passed. The plan was for her to be there and to have one last hooray with all her friends while at a hockey game. I remember being excited for that game to spend time with Erin's people, but it was actually a very difficult night. One year later, it's definitely not difficult being with the Hursts. Nothing but happiness when I get to be with them. The Jazz aren't too great this year - they lost to the Nets. Still fun.
Last but not least - lunch with Ash! A much needed catch up session over delicious buffalo chicken pizza. And Im happy to say we won't have to go 6 months between seeing each other anymore! We already have plans for February. Im so happy to see my friends again finally. So yeah - that was the rest of my January. Pretty good if ya ask me.
