Rise and shine the cougars are out

This week has been a pretty good one considering it was mostly just work and the start of school once again. So lets start from the beginning... Monday was Labor Day - and I actually had the day off work. Weird. I think ive worked the last 4-5 holidays so not sure how I got this one off, but we'll take it. I didn't do much. I know I went for a run and I think I went grocery shopping so happy Labor Day to me. Tuesday was a work day and the start of my second to last term of school. Only four months left!!! Yes, I am indeed counting down the days. Wednesday and Thursday were spent back in the clinic - I actually really enjoyed this week of clinic. It's nice already having two months worth of practice at this place so everything is just falling into place and Im feeling more and more confident in primary care.

My cute new clinic clothes I just bought. Wednesday's highlight was using a scalpel for my very first time. Ive been patiently waiting for more opportunities to do some hands on things / procedures and the day finally came. I removed a nexplanon (birth control) from this patients arm. I numbed up the skin and made a small incision, felt for the device and slightly pushed it out while also using my hemostats to then yank it out. It was fun. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Didn't have to stitch it up or anything - just used some steri strips. I watch plenty of grey's anatomy and I guess I thought the scalpel would just easily slice the skin like butter, but that wasnt the case - you definitely still have to cut haha. As of right now I could do this all day every day, but I think about how in nursing school I loved giving insulin injections or doing anything I could to poke someone and now insulin injections are the most tedious things that I can't stand doing. So maybe down the road removing a small birth control device won't be as exciting, but Im loving it for right now.

Thursday after clinic I pushed myself to still get out and run. I was pretty proud of myself. I had plenty of homework to do, I was tired and I had work the next day, but I figured while my body still felt decent I should take advantage. It always pays off in the long run to choose to be active. I did three miles in 25 minutes and felt pretty good. Im going to try to stay active through this term of school. Looking ahead I think these next two months will be chiller than the last two so hopefully my body stays a little more happy. Work was work. I actually charged two of my three days this week and Saturday I only worked an eight hour shift so it was actually a really easy week.

Saturday night was spent at LES with the Hursts! As I was leaving work Saturday I told a co-worker I was going to the football game with my friends family. She gave me kinda a weird look and said something to the fact of "well that might be a little awkward" I thought it was interesting, bc yeah just hanging out with your friends family, without your friend probably is weird for many people. Luckily these people are more than just my friends family. I love the hursts and the way they have always made me feel like family, but honestly even more so this year than ever. Almost exactly a year ago I went to my first BYU football game with Erin and Im sure she's jaw-dropped to still see me in cougar merch, high-fiving frank after a touchdown and singing the whole dang fight song loud and proud.

It was a super fun night. Perfect weather. A sold out stadium of 64,000+ people. My back hurting, voice gone and a headache. BYU winning 27-3. and not getting home til one in the morning.

Earlier this year - it was actually really difficult for me to be around the hursts because I felt the absence of Erin so strongly. I would cry at track meets or basketball games when I would see them because it was so obvious Erin wasnt there. Now though, I look forward to every chance I have to be with them. Being with them is like being with Erin. She told me back in the day that I better still keep in touch and visit her family - Im definitely trying to keep that promise. This month Im actually going to be with them like every weekend so Im excited. Lots to look forward to. On that note, BYU has a bye this week so no football to look forward to this week sadly. Well, that's about it. Can't complain too much about this week. Go cougs!
