my achey brakey back
This week has been a lot more of a crunch for time than the last few weeks and its bit me in the butt. I do have a lot of school work due this week because of a 20 minute presentation but I also think it's my own fault for putting other things first like friends haha and TV shows whoops. Anyways we'll get into that in a sec... Last week's blog took place in the wee hours of the morning on Sunday and I believe I finished off the post in the late hours that night on my last night shift of last week (but it was this week)
Well this was taken on my way out of work Monday morning - making the face because I smelt like absolute sh*t. We had no tech that night and I was lucky enough to get an incontinent, diarrhea guy. he was actually very very sweet so I wasnt mad, but I just smelt like I had been changing diapers all night - which was what happened. Monday I slept for a few hours, less than normal, and then gave Jesse and myself botox (no picture), but man it feels good to be frozen again.
Tuesday and Wednesday were right back to clinicals. So I paid five bucks last week to enter the NFL picks betting thing that the clinic does each week. I enlisted Seth to help me and either Seth knows exactly what he's doing or we had beginners luck but I was given my prize winnings of 95 bucks woot woot. I was actually stoked. Seth literally got all the games right except one. Very impressive.
so I took home 45 and Seth took the other 45. Yes, we entered this weekends bet as well, but Im not thinking we're lucky to win two weeks in a row. I guess this is why we are told not to gamble... I could see how it's addicting. Clinic was good overall - I don't think there is anything crazy to report.
Tuesday night I got to have dinner with these gals. It was really good to catch up with them. And we love some good bbq from five star. Ashley actually just sent me a video from when we all lived together in orem - I miss those days. Simpler days when we got to see each other every night and when Jesse wasnt in a different city every day and when Ashley didn't know Ethan yet and when we had random movie nights and dance parties. Now we're all boring, busy adults - kinda sad. It was good to all be together again. The last time we were all together was in February so it's been awhile.
Wednesday after clinic was mine and Madi's last wednesday together watching our show. The finale of The Summer I Turned Pretty - for two and a half months we've spent every wednesday (besides one) together and it's been nice to always have that to look forward to. So it's sad the show is over and our wednesday tradition is over, but the finale was great.
Thursday through Saturday I worked three 12s. Man, I haven't had a week of work this physically exhausting in a long time. Thursday I only had two patients, but they were busy busy busy. The one, Mr. Hamburg, is this sweet yet grouchy old man with a large bowel obstruction due to a splenic mass that we now know has metastasized to his liver. He ended up having an ileostomy placed, then ended up with post op ileus, so now he also has an NG tube and a PICC line with TPN. In civilian language - pretty much all I do all day is empty fluid from his stomach, bladder and bowels. Plus manage lots of stuff going into him. Then my second patient was a COVID+ confused man he had a fall and broke his hip. He had the hip replaced, but because of his covid he was needing 4-6L of oxygen and because he was confused he would fight me anytime we tried to put a mask or nasal cannula on him. It was one of those days that I didn't sit down for very long before either another call light was going off or some provider was calling me. Anyways - long story long this shift made my back hurt real bad. And it was only my "Monday". I sucked it up and came in the next day (Friday). It was also bad haha. I was charge nurse and was running my butt off all day. But what's great is as a charge nurse you can work your butt off and still be beat down mentally by your toxic co-workers so you feel even more like garbage. My legs felt like I had walked a day at Disneyland, the bottoms of my feet ached, my SI was so tight and my low back was spasming real good. After this week - I might leave bedside sooner than I was originally planning haha. Luckily - today, Saturday, was a good day. I still had Mr. Hamburg. He can be busy, but I have enjoyed having him this week. So yeah - my back is excited to have a day off.
Me treating myself to self care after a long week of work - red light mask and BYU football. It was a great game. I thought everyone played super good and it's always nice to win. Also Im wearing the shirt Erin got me last year. Cute. So lowkey this week has been mildly more stressful than the last few because 1. lots more homework 2. I couldn't do any homework at work bc it was too busy and I didn't want to do it when I came home because I was so exhausted 3. I also chose other things like football and girls nights.
So this is me now continuing to procrastinate the last two assignments I have this week - I figured I need to get something done so even if I get my blog done tonight then I can do the homework tomorrow. It's due Monday so I don't have much more time to procrastinate. Im not usually one to procrastinate my homework - I like getting things done and checking off my lists but I think this is just my burn out showing. I had good intentions to start one of those assignments tonight, but seeing that I can barely keep my eyes open (its 11:40pm and I took my muscle relaxer an hours ago) I think Ill have to wait to do it tomorrow. Well there's my week - my back hurts. but what's new??
