Good ole utah...
so everyone go read the title of my last blog... yeah it was a big fat lie. Per usual - utah loves to mess with us this time of year giving us hope that winter is over with a few good days of weather... then BAM snow storm. lovely. That's ok though because at least we are on the tail end of winter. Summer is right around the corner and I can hardly wait. Anyways, it's currently 0406 am on this Sunday morning. Tonights shift has been chill. We started off with 2 patients and 3 nurses (the best kind of ratios haha) now we have a whoping total of 4 patients. Lots of good talks with coworkers, homework and now blogging. This is why I love night shift. but lets rewind to earlier last week - I spent most the week in stg for clinicals. This week was pretty intense it seemed. I was with a different doc who is awesome, but a lot more involved (is that the word I want to use? idk) than my other preceptor. Dr. Swigert this week had me taking patients by myself - which right now means going in the room, doing an assessment and gathering a history then updating him and discussing a plan. He was also quizzing me all day long on some things I knew and others I had never heard of. He took time at the end of every day and on lunch breaks to explain certain medications and processes of the body - like legit wrote out diagrams to help me make sense of stuff. All very impressive and Im grateful for it, but man my brain was quite literally fried after just two days with him. I have never missed working a 12 hour shift as a bedside nurse so much than I did this week haha. I still learn new things almost every day as a nurse, but for the most part I can shut my brain off and still do my job - at the clinic? not so much. Ok enough school and work blah blah blah...
