Spring Break at Knotts!
Due to traveling and being in California last Sunday this blog will be going over the last two weeks of fun fun stuff! First of all...
Elder Sethy had a birthday! Being the best sister I am I sent him a minky blanket because if you know Seth you know he loves his soft blankets. When I opened up the FaceTime from him on Monday I just see him all posed and snuggled up with his new blanket so I guess he liked it haha. He is doing well, but doesn't mean I don't miss him a ton.
Pedicures with the girls in early celebration of Jesse's 24th birthday. She will be in Atlanta for her new job on her actual birthday so we had to do something to celebrate early. It's definitely not something we do very often or up to this point at all, but it was a fun girls night.
Jesse and I kept the celebration going with movie night to see Dune 2. A very long, but very good and entertaining movie. I already miss our weekly excursions to the movie theaters. She's doing well in Atlanta and everyone loves her, no surprise there. After a fun few days off I had four days of work before Cali! It was a very busy, exhausting, short staffed four days, but we did it. I had a 78 yr old bed bound man for all four days. He was oriented maybe to 2 meaning he knew his name and knew he was at a hospital but didn't know much more than that. Oh he also knew he wanted to die. He is covered in bed wounds, going septic, metastatic cancer and he told me over and over to put him out of his misery. He would pull off tele monitoring and tell me it was illegal what we were doing. I communicated this to the doctors and due to lack of family or any type of support they didn't want to put him on hospice because he wasn't oriented enough. Well I did my best to make him as comfortable as I could. I fed him every meal, cleaned him, medicated him as much as I was allowed and over four days I kinda just fell in love with him (in a nurse patient kind of way). My manager told me that earlier in the week people were complaining about this patient saying he was too much work and no one wanted him, but sometimes these are my favorite patients to take care of. The ones where I am needed to do everything to help them. Idk, probably doesn't make sense to anyone else, but it's rewarding especially when you can create a bond. Anyways... skip to when I came back from California, Wednesday. I had last had Mr. Morrison on Saturday and he was honestly looking better than the first day I had him. Well I was hoping to have him on Wednesday, but I didn't so I just checked on him and asked the nurse if I could help in any way. The first hour of shift vitals weren't looking good. BP was 80/50s and HR was 140s. Not long after that a massive puddle of blood was found on the floor at the foot of his bed. The sheets were lifted and the bed was saturated in blood coming from his bum and water falling off the foot of the bed. I still have no clue where this GI bleed came from, but the doctors then put him on hospice. He was able to receive the good meds and he looked so peaceful all day. He wanted a piece of gum (he has no teeth) so I gave him a piece of my mint gum and he happily chewed it with his gummy mouth. He passed away the night around 2am I guess. Happy for him. Death still makes me super emotional, but my job has changed my view on death drastically. There are a lot worse things than dying and it makes me happy that Mr. Morrison is no longer suffering. Welp, that's that. It still blows my mind what I experience, learn and see each and everyday at work. And after a back breaking, yet heart warming few days of work... California! Having a little vacation to look forward to definitely helped me get through that week.
Sunday dinner at our favorite - BJs!!! We did try to go to church, but when we showed up at the chapel we were the only ones there so we were thinking it was probably stake conference or something. So we chilled in the sun, did some come follow me, watched movies and dinner.
Monday we partied all day long at KNOTTS
me and Jackie sprinted to Ghostrider first - we got the back baby
Mom and Dad hit Xcelerator - also got the back baby.
We are a back of the coaster fam for sure.
Hangtime is so dang trippy.
Don't remember what this one is called, but it was lame. Fun though because we all got to ride together. While waiting in line we played Headbanz and I think everyone agrees that was the funnest part of the ride.
The best drop tower ever - Supreme Scream
Me and jack waiting for one of the many treats we had. We bought two meal plans which means we were eating every 90 minutes to get our moneys worth so funnel cake, ice cream sandwich, pulled pork sandwiches, Bbq, and loaded fries were on the menu for the day. We joked that we were there to eat and we just rode rides in between our eating times. haha. Don't worry we rode lots of rides too.
Temple Tuesday at the Newport Beach temple. We all did baptisms with Jackie - not fun to get wet again, but fun to have jack baptize all of us and be there as a family.
The rest of the day was shopping, Jacks dozen of Krispy Kreme all to himself and then me getting dropped off at the airport :( Quick trip but oh so fun.
My face leaving work on Wednesday when it was still light outside. No I didn't leave early - its 7:30pm, but man it's nice to have a little extra light in the evenings.
Saturday was spent doing errands, homework and chilling as well as hiking the dreaded Y with Dremma. Emma had never hiked it before so I joined them for a nice sunset hike. Beautful view from the top, but the little kid coming down the hike said it best "its not worth it" ahah.
Last but not least, jack had his first outdoor meet the couple days before California. Snow canyon meet has always been pretty good to me, but it was extra nice to Jackie... 9 second PR in the mile. official time of 4:30! Second on his team and only by like a second I think. It was a super good little race and Im way proud of Jack. I was able to FaceTime in because I had work, but this upcoming weekend Im stoked to be there in person. Lots to look forward to, life is pretty dang good.
