BIG WEEK
So the title really should be plural (weeks) since I skipped blogging last week, but in all honesty nothing happened this week... all the big stuff was the week before. Ok so now that you have a little bit of the timeline... lets dive in...
You are looking at your newest FNP student
First day of school for me looked like a normal 12 hour shift plus homework that night. Always fun. Not gonna lie, the first week was a bit overwhelming. The stress of learning a new online system and making sure I do everything right and on time (with the little time I have). Balancing everything right now is a struggle especially just trying to stay in shape, get enough sleep, keep in touch with friends and get over this sickness Ive had for two months now... its tough, but Im tough so its getting better. Have I learned anything yet? no not really. This class is just a lot of discussions about being a leader and how to transition into the role of an advanced practice nurse - so just a lot of busy work that is time consuming. We love education though! It opens doors and lets us live a better life with more agency so here I go.
Friday Jackie ran up here in Orem and crushed it. Its my favorite thing to watch him run and see him progress with each race. He bumped up to fifth on his team and since last year he has PRd four minutes on this course - he's an animal! Coach decided to have the boys take a new approach to this race. They started with the fastest boys in the back and ran more in a pack. It was epic to watch. There is power in running as a team and it really showed - Jack was up with the faster boys and I think it gave him more confidence to push hard to stay with them longer than usual. Such a fun morning - so proud of Jack and already stoked for the next race.
Introduced emma to the exciting world of XC. After the race, Jack headed down the road with his team and DrEmma, Erin and I hit up Mo'bettahs for lunch.
So like I said - still sick after the last couple of months and recently every couple of weeks it gets bad. Instead of just a stuffy nose and sore throat, body aches and fever/chills gets added to the mix. Well I was supposed to work friday evening, but I started feeling super crappy after jacks race and lunch so I called out of work. Erin was already planning on sleeping over that night so she did homework while I napped for a bit, then I joined her in doing some homework. A very chill friday night to try and help my body recover. Woke up feeling a bit better, at least enough to help drew set up for his big day!
First stop - costco! thanks to kelsi for letting me borrow her membership card.
I felt like a real adult. Had to pick up the goods...
Recruited some help from the besties

The set up
Grateful for good friends!
hiding and waiting
And the happy couple!
My friends and I met up with Emma's siblings - a bit stressful because we had no reception up here in this meadow. I had no clue where drew was because I couldn't find his location or text him. I also didnt know where emma's siblings were because I couldn't text her sister BUT in the end it all worked out perfectly. Literally perfect. We all hid while drew did his thing and they had a sweet moment. Then we hopped out and congratulated our engaged siblings! Crazy! Drew was really happy with how it turned out and Emma was super surprised - Oh and it was her birthday, best birthday ever!
Some of my favorite pictures...
A very very exciting day and even more exciting days to come for these two! Right after the proposal I hit the road for stg.
In no particular order... this is what labor day looked like. Spent the whole day picking apples, cutting apples, cooking apples, mashing apples and canning applesauce. I think close to 250 cans of applesauce?? not sure but we were definitely blessed this year with full trees so we took advantage of it.
cutie little harvey
Jack had a long run that morning and took a nice afternoon nap.
Picked me some yummy corn.
Dad found a little baby snake in the garden
I love pine valley and I feel like I haven't been able to be up there very much this summer which makes me sad. The next day we canned some beans and swam at our house. I just love being home and hanging out with family.
Then back to work I went. Random picture of me during an inservice we had on placing shoulder braces. This week of work was super busy! We were completely full and as charge nurse I had to work with the CNO to make room for our surgeries for the day - hectic, but we made it through. It was also my last day with my nurse orientee. Ive been working with a new nurse the last month and at first I wasnt so sure about it, but after a month it was cool to see what I was able to teach her. I think I have this month off of nurse orientees, but students are back in school so Im sure Ill have someone following me most shifts. This week I also had a patient that I had a few months ago... he had a long summer of surgeries, ICU stays, surgery complications and more ICU and finally rehab. I got to be his nurse for a couple days this week as he is back for some abdominal pain and I just love him and his wife. I love being able to help people feel better whether thats through medications, comfort measures or just being a happy face that greets them in the morning. The wife, christina, is the kindest soul and gave me so many hugs of appreciation as they were discharged home with only 2/10 pain, yay! They are the type of people I love to see, but I hate having to see them at the hospital. Anyways, friday we discharged almost all of our patients...12 to be exact so saturday morning I got a call at 5:45 to see if I wanted to take the day off... I did. Went back to sleep till 10am and pretty much just did homework all day - thats my life now.
Which brings us to today! church with jesse to go "hunting for honeys" (thats what the provo bros say) and dinner with Drew and Emma and Kelsi! Sundays are the best. I told ya it was a big week... this upcoming week should be pretty fun as well so stay tuned...
