a kick in the balls type week
This week sucked. As if working 73 hours in 7 days wasnt enough... I was sick the entire time and then crap like my clinical preceptor bailing on my just has to add stress to the whole thing. But it's a new week today and I think I'm finally overcoming my sickness, Im pretty sure my clinical rotation is figured out to where I can still graduate this year andddd NO work this week! So I made it. survival mode all week long, but I guess we can do hard things... or like a lot of hard things at once. Anyways... that's my week in a nutshell but here are a few miserable pictures that I took so I would have something to blog about ahah.
I wasnt eating a lot earlier this week because my sickness made me somewhat nauseous and my appetite was gone. Well more like I was hungry, but absolutely nothing sounded good. So Wednesday for lunch the only thing that did sound good was a dutch bros. Pretty sure my only caloric intake this day was this chocolate milk and a granola bar that just made me nauseous.
I actually did take some photos of a few fun things and this, as always, is one of my weekly highlights. I social distanced so Madi wouldn't get sick because she starts teaching again next week (I can't believe school is already here again, where did the summer go???). Our Wednesday nights together are so fun, I love them.
Team Conrad.
Thursday was pretty miserable. I was still sick, had to charge, and had a fairly busy patient of my own. this was also the day I found out my preceptor for the rotation that starts in three weeks had bailed on me. That stress was just the cherry on top to my day. I thought maybe I was starting to feel better this day, but I just think 12 hour shifts in general are not good when you are sick so I started getting body aches and fevery by the end of the day. I called out sick the next day mostly because I was, but also because I wanted time to figure out my next rotation and hopefully give my body and actual day to rest and heal.
I slept in, did lots of homework, some laundry and by the afternoon decided to get some vitamin D with a very easy walk outside. My throat and sinuses were aching with the hard breathing I was doing even just while walking, but it was good to get fresh air.
Saturday I didn't work until 3pm so I was able to sleep in and it was mostly just congestion left. I went shopping before work which was fun and treated myself to some chickfila. Work was super chill which was very nice. We had two patients so for the first four hours of work I didn't have a patient. I watched the movie Clueless, did some homework and completed some continuing education stuff for work. At shift change around 7pm I was giving a whopping one patient. Ive had him before about a year ago and it was good to catch up with him. The last four hours flew by as I really just chatted with my co-workers and my patient. Tina, my charge nurse this night, has a sister about probably a month out from dying of cancer. We pretty much just cried and talked about death and life after death and I just sat and thought about how horrible those weeks were before and after Erins death. That was easily the worst time of my life. Ever. I just feel for Tina and what she is probably going through right now and in the weeks to come. Anyways - that was this week. A week where I was already down and then someone just decides to come and kick me in the balls. (hypothetically ofc, ive never been kicked in the balls, but Ive heard it hurts). Next week will be better, thank goodness. bye!
Tina gave me this sticker yesterday. Pretty accurate, other than this is pertaining to nursing school so for me I also have to add working full time and instead of studying for exams it's more just like writing 10 page papers. All of it is so fun, but man December can't come soon enough!
