boorrinnggg, youre boring!
yep - life is pretty blah right now. Its pretty much just school, work, sleep, repeat. There's some fun things happening every now and then, but Im not exaggerating when I say non-stop school and work. Im usually one to turn in everything pretty early and give myself a few days off homework - but the last couple months have looked more like doing homework every single day just to get everything turned in barely by midnight on Monday nights. so I'm also not exaggerating when I say Im literally counting down the days till summer and to have a quick break from school. Well I didn't blog last week because I was busy and honestly I have nothing of importance to speak of... so here's some random things from the last couple weeks.
Yes, it's a pain to travel to and from St. George every three days - but it is really fun to be down there. I like when jack comes and distracts me from homework at night. We usually lay on my bed and watch funny videos, it's great.
Still working with Dr. Woolley and Im learning lots. a lot a lot. It's been a good first rotation and hopefully the rest are as good as this one.
I feel like Hannah Montana right now - living two different lives. A boujie St. George life looking like a business woman and then there's my normal grimy job at the VA living in lame SLC haha. I worked day shift last weekend and I can't complain. It's actually been a pretty chill few weeks of work - nothing crazy to report on. I think a part of that is just becoming a completely numb nurse to all the insanity that bedside nursing can be. It still blows my mind that Ive been a legit nurse for almost three years. Why do I still feel like a young 22 year old baby in nursing school?? Does it ever set in? Like tonight I was handling literally hundreds of opioids and I was like wow I do this. And I do this literally every day for a living. weird.
Speaking of adulting and working - Jess and I finally found two hours of free time to hang out in between our busy lives. She's jet setting across the country and Im wiping butts and writing papers. One of us is living the dream. haha Ill let you decide which is which.
It was her 25th birthday (old lady!!) and we happened to be in town so Slackwater it is!! I had just gotten off work and she had a red eye that night. It was SO good to see her and catch up. It had literally been over a month. right now all I want to do is hang out with friends because I haven't seen anyone in so long.
During work I FaceTimed in to watch Jackie's first 3200m race of the season. A whopping first place, state qualifying time and a PR! Sheesh, can't ask for a better morning on the track than that. Him and his buddy Log took turns for the first mile and a half leading the race until the last couple of rough laps. Jackie was able to win the battle for first. He doesn't love the 3200, but looks as though he might be running it at state.
And after one weekend of day shift Im back to working nights woohoo. Im honestly so proud of my body for what Im putting it though right now. For the record I haven't gotten sick at all this winter - Im on Enbrel, my best friend passed away which meant endless sobbing, working full-time, traveling back and forth, and full-time school and clinicals??? wow. you'd think I would've been sick at least a couple times by now, but no. Also the fact that half the week I work during the day in clinic and the other half the week its a complete 180 and Im nocturnal working all night and sleeping during the day. Proud of my body for dealing with this shiz. So yeah, it's currently 0213am on Sunday morning - my patients are sleeping, Ive gotten my homework done, my charge nurse duties almost done, some walking in and now blogging. Love productive night shifts. Well pretty pointless blog, but happy Sunday morning and general conference weekend. My patient this evening (who I had last night as well) asked if I went to conference today. I said "no, I slept all day!" He said "I swear I saw you in the youth choir" I guess he had literally saw my doppleganger and told his wife "Look, that's laynee" haha I mean I worked all night plus Im not a youth so probs not me, but I thought it was funny. Ok goodnight or good morning... I don't even know anymore.
